Abstract

The emergence and continuation of Pakistan as a non-theocratic state owes much to the appreciation of leftist ideas in public arenas. The leftist intellectuals and activists extensively highlighted some key debates and discussions such as a democratic state, provincial autonomy, minority rights, socio-economic justice, and the idea of an egalitarian society. These discussions showed their deep involvement in influencing Pakistan's political and social development (1947-1977).
